Quit Smoking Fast – How Your Health Can Benefit!
Why do you smoke?
The last time I asked a smoker friend of mine if he planned to quit smoking for his new year resolution, he said no, and that his grandfather smoke and lived to the ripe old age of 97 years. I am sure that most smokers have a good reason to smoke. Some enjoy it too much to give it up, others are just too addicted to even try. The most common reason I have heard for not quitting is the weight gain that sets in when you stop.
I have known people who have quit smoking cold turkey. One of them was forced to stop due to her pregnancy. At least that was an intelligent and responsible move on her part, you don’t want to start poisoning your children before they are born. By the way, to quit cold turkey according to survey is not the best approach. It has the lowest success rate and not recommended. If you quit for a good reason, like the birth of your child, you may pick it up again later during times of hardship, but there is no harm in trying.
Help is available!
It will be much harder to give up smoking if both partners in one household are doing it. The fact that the two partners agree to quit will go a long way in attaining success. You can go through the various stages of withdrawal symptoms together and support one another morally. Don’t try to quit in one go, unless you are really ready to give up it. There are things that can help you slowly ease off the nicotine addiction until you are comfortable enough to see it through for good.
Researches have shown that if you set up a deadline to quit smoking, you will be more successful. You will have to identify the triggers that make you want to light up. Find ways to deal with the triggers, such as developing new routines in your day to day life. There are so many options available to people who wants to quit smoking. Things such as the nicotine patch, nicotine gum, herbal products, etc.
Benefits to your health!
One of the best reasons to quit smoking is the amount of money you’ll save at the end of the year. There are also prescriptions drugs available to help you quit, things like Chantix and Zyban. Before you decide to go for the prescriptions medications, make sure to ask about the side effect in the long term, you don’t want to quit smoking only to deal with another problem later.
I mentioned earlier that by quitting smoking you’ll save a ton of money. That was one of the benefits. The greatest one is the benefit to your health. According to studies, one smoker in ten will develop lung cancer and that is not all. There are other horrible health problems associated with smoking that most smokers tend to ignore. When you look at things such as, throat cancer, bladder, kidney, stomach cancer you wonder how smoking can even be legal.
